Domain Name Services (DNS)
Domain names are easy to remember aliases for IP Addresses. Each domain name
identifies one or more IP addresses. Domain Name Services (DNS) provides the
ability for a domain name to resolve to an IP address.
Domain names contain a suffix that indicates the top level domain (TLD) it belongs to.
There are a finite number of top level domains. A few of the more popular domain suffixs
include:
- com - Commercial Businesses
- net - Network Organizations
- gov - Government Agencies
- edu - Educational Institutions
- org - Nonprofit Organizations
- mil - Military Agencies
